Use this lesson plan to make a graph using candy hearts
First read the brief history of conversation hearts here. http://www.candyfavorites.com/Shop/conversation_hearts_origin.asp
Then have the student cut out heart shapes from construction paper. They will use these hearts to make their own unique conversation hearts. Have them look at some conversation hearts for inspiration. Also have them notice how many words/letters are on the hearts. Notice that the hearts have no more than 4 letters per word and no more than 2 words per heart. They should try to mimic this. Also stress not to just copy the hearts but to try and come up with their own sayings.
In times past it was common to write an acrostic poem to their beloved (A poem where the first letter in each line spells out the belovedís name). Have the student write a poem in the same manner. Instead of a beloved they could use a friendís name or relative. Use this template to write your poem on. http://www.abcteach.com/valentine/riddle.htm
